Favorite Song of the Day: Samba Triste

Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd – Samba Triste

A song which has come to represent an introduction to new worlds, youth, late nights, curiosity and discovery. A soundtrack for a wonderful part of my life. It remains one of my all time favorites.

Many years ago, some friends and I picked up the album this song is on at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. I know Stan Getz is not considered up there in the jazz snob pantheon but I think he’s perfect in this song. The original is done by a Brazilian guy who I can’t recall his name at the moment but I actually prefer this over the original and I’m really into Brazilian music.
Getz and Charlie Byrd really had some kind of synergy in this recording.
