At one point in my life, I lived for the end of October: halloween parties, dia de los muertos, ofrendas, costumes. Friends and I would gather and spend months making decorations for our celebrations out of paper mache, papel picado and designing graphics for our party invitations.\u00c2\u00a0 Lack of time and money combined with the commercialism of dia de los muertos have all contributed to my lack of enthusiasm these days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/chimatli.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dod2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2351\" title=\"dod2\" src=\"https:\/\/chimatli.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dod2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chimatli.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dod2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/chimatli.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/dod2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Nopales, chiles, seeds&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The DIY element of dia de los muertos had always appealed to me. Now you can go into any old boutique, Target for that matter and come across some Mexican-looking calavera. No, thanks.
