I love the steel drums and the way they wander around the atonal chorus and spoken lyrics.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.redlipstick.net\/pls.html\">Pulsallama<\/a> was an avant-garde art band from New York and a part of the the burgeoning new wave scene. Ann Magnuson of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P5asohoiR6E\">Bongwater<\/a> was once part of the group.<\/p>\n<p>From the blog <a href=\"http:\/\/deadpandas.blogspot.com\/2007\/09\/pulsallama-devil-lives-in-my-husbands.html\">Bleeding Panda<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pulsallama was a short-lived, yet legendary, 12 piece all-girl percussion band who ruled Manhattan nightlife for a brief period in 1981 and 1982. Their sound has been described as &#8220;13 girls fighting over a cowbell.&#8221; Pulsallama got a rave review in New Musical Express in which the reporter said he was &#8220;dancing, screaming and laughing, all at the same time!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/gNDccgakPvo&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/gNDccgakPvo&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><br \/>\n<strong>Pigbag-Papa&#8217;s Got A Brand New Pigbag<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another Y label hit, <em>Papa&#8217;s Got a New Pigbag<\/em> was one of the most awesome experimental post-punk, funk, dance-floor hit songs of the early 80s. The amazing bassline later gets heavily referenced by The Style Council in the song <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Vj9ptF9XNjI\">Precious<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jugLjUObvFw&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/jugLjUObvFw&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><br \/>\n<strong>Maximum Joy-Stretch (Discomix &#038; Rap)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I often assumed this kind of music was just funky new wave.
